Clinical Paperwork is a Necessary Evil

Doctors' capacity to give timely, high-quality care to patients is hindered by the time and effort required to complete clinical paperwork.

  • Limitations on available time during patient encounters are a common complaint from medical professionals. They are unable to devote as much time to seeing patients, diagnosing their diseases, and planning their treatments because of administrative activities like filling out paperwork. As a result, patients may feel rushed during their visits, and their satisfaction may suffer as a result.

  • Comprehensive documenting of patient contacts, including medical history, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment plans, and progress notes, is required by healthcare standards and insurance policies. Accurately recording and maintaining this paperwork is the responsibility of the treating physician and involves much effort and focus.

  • Entering the same information about a patient into many forms and databases is a common source of frustration. Often, doctors will have to manually enter the same information more than once, which will increase the chance of making a mistake and wasting time.

  • Submitting claims, defending medical necessity, and providing supporting paperwork are all part of the insurance and payment systems that doctors must master. To ensure accurate payment for services provided, doctors must devote more time and energy to the administrative side of healthcare.

  • Documentation requirements and patient privacy laws (like HIPAA in the US) are two examples of restrictions that doctors must follow. As a result, doctors have more work to perform behind the scenes to make sure their practices are in line with the law.

  • Keeping and stowing records: medical records and/or forms kept on paper can be a pain to organize and keep track of. The proper storage, retrieval, and protection of patient information can require dedicated time and effort on the part of physicians.

Clinical paperwork is a necessary evil, yet it can increase stress, lead to burnout, and decrease job satisfaction among healthcare professionals. ParaDocs Health seeks to improve the job experience and well-being of doctors by automating and streamlining the documentation process. This will free up more time for doctors to spend caring for patients, for more empathy, and for higher judgment quality.
